Club members reach the next level

18 July 2014

Sensei Sherry with members of Nailsea Karate and Backwell Karate Nailsea Karate & Backwell Karate clubs were delighted to host the chief instructor of the Karate Union of Great Britain for a special training course and grading on Friday, attended by almost 50 Karate students.

Sensei Sherry, who was himself awarded the grade of 9th Dan last year, took a coloured belt training session before grading 22 students from the Nailsea and Backwell clubs, all of whom were awarded their next belt. Congratulations to all those that passed, especially to Pete De'Vanney who was graded straight to 8th kyu (red belt).

After the grading was over, black belts from Nailsea and Backwell along with visitors from Bristol and Bath were treated to one and a half hours of specialist training in the dan grade class, concentrating predominantly on footwork drills and the kata Sochin.

During a break in the evening, Sensei Sherry present Sensei Tim Griffiths with a new black belt on behalf of club members following his promotion to 5th Dan earlier in the year. The belt was specially embroidered, which he was delighted with. Tim would like to thank everyone for their kind gift.

For the clubs' next grading they will be joining karate exponents from Bath and Bristol on Sunday 9th November at Sir Bernard Lovell Sports Centre, Oldland Common, BS30 8TS.
